Will urban sprawl spread so far that most people lose all touch with nature?
Will the day come when the only bird a typical Filipino child ever sees is a canary in a pet shop window?
When the only wild animal he knows is a rat - glimpsed on a night drive through our city slum?
When the only tree he touches is the cleverly fabricated plastic evergreen at SM malls?
In the next level of my photography hobby, I have discovered that sometimes, we have to give ourselves time to appreciate nature, not just for outing or recreation but to savor it and have bonding with nature.
I am a probinsyano who live in the city's wilderness for a decade and have missed the birds chirps, humming sound of the trees and cold winds that brings tranquility to my spirit. Just for a day of silence away from the sprouting city life, you will realize that something will have gone out of us as a people if we ever let the remaining wilderness be destroyed. If we permit the last virgin forests to be turned into books, packaging and tooth pick then drive the few remaining members of the wild species into zoos or to extinction .. all of these will end up as a highlight in a museum.
It has been a return to the primitive and the peaceful. Whenever the pressure of our complex work in the city life thins my blood and benumbs my brain, I am fortunate that I had seek quick relief in my photography; and finally had discovered its beauty that sometimes each one of us fails to appreciate..
